A big thank you to Gabriel S. and Jonathan L. for our Media Club Blog's new look! Both students worked hard at developing our own logo (in the masthead above) and working with Weebly to adapt the template.
What do you think of our new digs?
By Jonathan L. Did you know that Mrs. Koffler has created a new adventure space in her room? She has decided to transform a corner of her room into “Camp Koffler”. It was inspired by the Magic Tree House, which lived in a corner of her room in a previous year. She wanted to ensure a quiet and cozy place for her first graders to sit and do their Daily 5. Daily 5 is a program that lets you select either to read to yourself, or to read with somebody during reading time. Mrs. Koffler started building this “camp” a week before school started, She stopped when school started, as she had other things to work on as well. And she says it’s not even done yet! Mrs. Koffler continues adding to this “work in progress.” If Mrs. Koffler were to redo this project, she would buy a bigger tent so more kids can sit inside and read, but it’s expensive! She has more plans for this project, and she just wants the kids to be comfortable. Once in awhile, the kids have suggestions. “Because 'When you give kids ideas, of course they [will] have suggestions.” According to Mrs. Koffler, it took an eight out of ten effort to get up to this point, but like she says, it not done yet! As of now, she is stepping back and evaluating on what to do next. Parents contributed the lights, and they’re always there when Mrs. Koffler needs them. Her favorite parts of her “work in progress” are the campfire and the Seasonal Basket of Books, which is a changing basket of books, so for example, during the holidays, there are holiday-themed books in the basket.Mrs. Koffler says she needs to tighten up the screws on the bench before the kids can sit on it again, because she thinks one screw might be loose! Mrs. Koffler definitely plans to have this up for a few years. She’s not sure whether to expand the theme of “Camp Koffler” to the rest of the classroom because it’s quite a task. After that, She isn’t sure what will happen. When asked the question, “How satisfied are you with this project on a scale of ten?” She answered, “Ten!” By Kaylee C. The 5th graders spent the day at another school! What? All the 5th graders from all five elementary schools in San Gabriel went to Jefferson last Wednesday to learn about the middle school we would all be going to next year. Each school's group of soon-to-be 6th graders toured around Jefferson and saw the B building classrooms and the auditorium. We all got to experience a “Jefferson Hour” in the auditorium with the 6th and 7th graders. We heard the band play cool songs and got to award the fast Jog-a-thon runners. There was also a cool contest to see who could find the marshmallow rabbit under lots of whip cream with only your mouth! We had a fun time there and came back to Coolidge just in time for lunch. By: Kaylee C. The Instrumental Recital is coming up this Friday, March 11th at 6:00pm in the Coolidge Cafeteria. Be sure to come, there will be lots of talented musicians coming to play like pianists, violinists, and even a harpist! There will also be refreshments afterwards. A big thank you to Mrs. Hamamoto and Mrs. Wong for preparing this awesome event! The 2nd graders in Room 3 had a radical Valentine's Day and the kids sure looked like they were having fun! In Ms. Peters' room there were groups, or stations, that each had different crafts and fun things to do. Some of the kids even made delicious COOKIES! They got to decorate them with cereal and candy. Another table made a turkey using their hand! This party sure looked fun, and we bet the kids felt the Valentine's Day love! While we were there, we interviewed a few of the students. One student said he was a secret admirer to a friend in the class! Some in the class said they had been waiting a very long time for this event! Other students said they had been waiting more like "three days and ten minutes!" About half of the class said they liked the candy more on Valentine’s day, while the other half liked the cards they got from their friends more. Mrs. Peter’s class exchanged Valentines later, and many of the students said they were going to the Valentine’s Family dance later that night (Feb. 12). The students loved getting Valentines and this holiday was very enjoyable for them. Even though we interviewed the class, we didn’t forget about Mrs. Peters! She claimed it didn’t actually take her long to get the party set up! And Mrs. Peters exclaimed, “I got so much chocolate, it could last all the way to next Valentine’s Day!” She also gave the class some extraordinary Valentines!
